How your karakas are worked out.

Ranked by degrees

Jaimini astrology ranks the planets by how far each has moved through its sign. The highest is your atmakaraka, the lowest is your darakaraka.

Darakaraka is the spouse

The darakaraka is read as the person you partner with. It describes a spouse's qualities directly. This reading uses the planet itself, without counting a house from it.

Birth time matters

The Moon can change ranks within hours, and two planets can be close in degrees. Use an accurate birth time so your karakas are worked out correctly.

Common questions

What is a darakaraka?

A darakaraka is the planet with the lowest degree in your chart among the eight Jaimini karakas. It is read as the significator of your spouse.

How do I find my atmakaraka?

Your atmakaraka is the planet with the highest degree within its sign in your birth chart. It is read as the planet of the soul's main lesson in Jaimini astrology.

Does this use seven or eight karakas?

Bansi uses the eight karaka scheme, which includes Rahu with its degrees counted in reverse. Some schools use seven. That can explain why another site's result differs.

Does my darakaraka tell me who I will marry?

Your darakaraka describes a spouse's qualities. It cannot name the person you will marry. Read it alongside your 7th house and navamsa for a fuller view of marriage.
